Ashley from Platinum Discos started his career as a wedding Dj back in 1976 in a little town in Perthshire called Aberfeldy.
As a 14 year old his first disco was a ski club dance at The Ailean Craggan on the way to Weem from Aberfeldy.
Ashley started doing lots of discos in the Aberfeldy area and branched out into surrounding towns within 20 miles or so.
These included Pitlochry Dunkeld and Crieff primarily where he did lots of school discos primarily and a few house parties.
As he became older and more experienced he started doing bigger and more high profile events and started to be a wedding Dj.
Ashley was a natural Dj with a great taste in music and the desire to make people happy.
From the very early days Ashley liked to impress with his disco. He bought good quality equipment and put on a real show!
One of his biggest shows was at The Salutation Hotel in Perth for a local charity. He put on an awesome sound and light show for Perth Special baby care unit and helped raise lots of money.
When Ashley was a student at Leith Nautical College in Edinburgh he did the college discos in the canteen and he really started to develop his mobile disco business.
When Ashley was 18 he started to branch further afield as he Now had a driving licence and his first car. Gigs in Perth and Dundee became regular and all the outlying villages like Kinloch Rannoch, Stanley, Tummel bridge and Birman became easier for him to get to.
At this point Ashley started to be a Dj at lots of weddings and birthday parties and he saw the potential to make money.
After doing mobile discos every weekend for several years Ashley saw an advert for a club DJ job in Lourenzo Marques in Dunfermline in 1987.
He applied for the job and met Dougie Smith the resident Dj. Dougie who was an expert beat mixer showed Ashley how to beat mix and then Ashley became the resident Dj with Dougie and they shared the nights together.
After working in Dunfermline for two years at Lourenzos an opportunity cane along that a young Dj would jump at.
This was the opportunity to travel the world and become an international club DJ.
In 1989 Ashley started his career as an international Dj in Guernsey working in Scarlett’s night club in St Peter Port.
After his initial trial period his next stop was the world renowned Mena House Oberoi in Giza Cairo Egypt.
This was an amazing job for Ashley. To be working in such a prestigious venue at just 28 years old.
After the Gulf war started all the UK Djs were told to leave Egypt as it was considered to be unsafe and Ashley returned prematurely to Aberfeldy.
His next stop was another stint in Lourenzo Marques in Dunfermline, but bigger things were to come!
Wedding bookings started to increase and with all that he learned as a club Dj and an international Dj made Ashley into a very flexible and adaptable wedding Dj!
Ashley became the wedding Dj of choice and the “ go to Dj” of choice in Perthshire, Fife and Edinburgh.
