Wedding Dj, Mobile Discos, Ft William, Lochinver, Ullapool
In my 42 year long career as a mobile wedding Dj and party Dj I have travelled all over Scotland providing mobile discos for weddings, birthdays anniversaries etc.
I love the road that goes up to and through Glencoe with the road going through the middle of the mountains and a waterfall right at the start. It’s an amazing place to go especially in the winter.
After you pass through Glencoe you come to Ballachulish and its famous bridge. On the left is Ballachulish village hall where I have been the Dj on a number of occasions now. I’ve provided my mobile disco for two birthday parties there recently. Its a lovely venue with easy access and a nice big car park at the front door.
If you go over The Ballachulish bridge towards Fort William you’ll come across another venue that I’ve done lots of weddings in. The Onich Hotel has a lovely function room and a big decked veranda overlooking the loch.
It has friendly helpful staff and good food. It has gardens leading right down to the Lochside and a beach. It also has car parking and good access for entertainers to the function room. The wedding I did there the last time was extremely good and I was asked to light up the decked area as they were having a fireworks display as soon as it got dark.
As requested I Played a Dj Tiesto track while everyone was watching the fireworks. It was a great success and another nice review was added to my collection.
I’ve also provided my wedding disco at many venues in Fort William itself. One of my favourite venues outside Fort William is in Arisaig where I did a wedding in Astley Hall. The bride and groom had decorated the hall with chinese lanterns and it looked lovely.
I had the pleasure of playing with an amazing local ceilidh band who were one of the best I’ve ever heard. Their mix of traditional classics and versions of modern songs played through a variety of traditional and not so traditional instruments was fantastic. They were a hard act to follow. Needless to say I had a great night.
After the wedding was over I packed up my wedding disco and headed off back down the road through Fort William and Glencoe. I have never seen so many red deer as I did that night. I must have seen well over 200 of them and was very careful to avoid them.
This reminds me of the three occasions where I have stopped off at The Kingshouse Hotel In Glencoe and fed the wild deer. On my last occasion I recorded this amazing video. Deer are so soft and timid and very gentle and I think it’s a sin to shoot them.
In the background you’ll see the start of the Glencoe mountains. Its a very beautiful part of Scotland.
Ok, lets head up the road a bit to Ullapool and another wedding venue where I provided my wedding disco service and I was the Dj. The Royal Hotel in Ullapool is on the right hand side of the road as you come into the town. Its et back off the road and has a big car park and great views over the loch.

The wedding I did here was extremely good and for a change I decided not to drive home and to stay over. My room was beautiful with a large bed and nice furniture and a really good bathroom. The views out of the window were amazing and I wished that I didn’t have to leave at the crack of dawn to get to my next disco. I was the first one down for breakfast and then off I went to my next job.
If I had to complain about my life as a wedding Dj it would be that sometimes when I want to stay and chat to some interesting people or want to stay in a nice comfy bed and have a late breakfast I can’t. My job always comes first.
My final venue on the West Coast is Glencanisp Lodge near Lochinver. I provided my services to a Dutch couple who had brought all their friends and family from Holland to Glencanisp Lodge for a week to celebrate their wedding. My job was to provide the wedding disco and mood lighting and to Dj until they wanted to stop. We did eventually stop at 0430 in the morning. I lit up all the trees and bushes and the barn that we were having the disco in. The biggest problem we had was midges! The west coast of Scotland is infamous for them, but they don’t like disco smoke machines! So with the smoke machine billowing out smoke all night we had a midge free night.

I hope this blog has given you a good insight into venues in the North West Of Scotland and to some of my particular favourites. I hope its also given you an insight into my life as a wedding Dj. It’s not all about pressing buttons to play music. It’s the travel, the setting up and the preparation at home before the event that are actually the hardest. The performing is the bit I enjoy most!
