Last night I was the wedding Dj for Donna and James and provided my stunning mobile disco with mood lighting at the beautiful Waterside Hotel, West Kilbride, Ayrshire.
I’ve passed this venue on multiple occasions on my way to other gigs where I was the wedding Dj. I’ve travelled to lots of venues nearby and I always wanted to be the wedding Dj or party Dj at The Waterside Hotel, West Kilbride with my mobile disco. Now I’ve finally crossed it off my bucket list.
I’ve also been the wedding Dj and provided my mobile disco for a wedding in one of the other venues owned by Simpsinns which was The Gailes hotel which is also just outside Irvine. It’s another stunning venue which I really enjoyed being the wedding Dj at. It was another amazing wedding for a lovely couple.
Both of these Ayrshire wedding venues are absolutely stunning with prime locations and beautiful ground floor function rooms with easy access. As a wedding Dj I see lots of different venues every week and I have to say I was greatly impressed by both The Gailes Hotel and The Waterside Hotel in Ayrshire.
I arrived really early yesterday which I like to do. I think it’s very reassuring to the bride and groom if the wedding Dj arrives very early. I parked my van in the car park at 4pm and went to see the function room and introduced myself to the function manager Ryan as the wedding Dj and asked him what time room turnaround would be etc. It was arranged for around 6.30 pm and I started to unload my van around 5.30 pm and put my equipment outside the function room so I could set up faster. As a wedding Dj you have to be quick at setting up during room turnarounds.
After I spoke to Ryan I then found the bride Donna who was really friendly and she introduced me to James the groom who is communicated with many times by email. I explained to Donna that it’s always easy to find the bride because of the wedding dress but not so easy to find the groom. We laughed and we went off and then found James.
James was a very friendly guy and I knew he was going to be by his email correspondence. As a Wedding Dj you get really good at reading between the lines and getting to know your clients. He introduced me to his son’s band who were playing with me that night. We talked about where we were going to set up etc and everything was arranged. As a wedding Dj I often play alongside a band.
I thoroughly enjoyed being the wedding Dj and the whole night was very enjoyable with everyone dancing from the first dance onwards. James and Donna asked me for Christina Perri – A Thousand Years as their first dance followed by Ed Sheeran and Andrea Boccelli doing perfect symphony. As a wedding Dj I get asked for lots of different first dances and quite often some unusual ones. Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years is a very popular one and is on my top 50 first dance list.
The buffet was served at 9.30pm and the band started at 10pm and this gave me a welcome break. As a wedding Dj standing for 5 hours can be quite tiring so sometimes I have a chair behind the Dj console to sit on. After 20 trips to my van and back to bring in all the mobile disco including a deck stand with 15 parts, two large speakers, eight lights, two bags of cables, a front drape, two laptop bags and 12 wireless mood lights it can be quite exhausting and sore on your back. My speakers weigh 30Kg each including the covers. Luckily last night the venue was on the ground floor and made using my folding trolley possible.
It was a great night and at the end of the night James the groom came up and paid me and thanked me for a great night. It was an absolute pleasure to be the wedding Dj at this beautiful venue and to meet such a lovely bride and groom.
After the wedding had finished I had to dismantle my mobile disco which takes around 30 minutes and then I had to load my van and take another 20 trips back and forth. It’s amazing how far you can walk in one night. Then it was a 90 minute drive home and I got in at 2.30am. So effectively I’d worked for almost 12 hours as I left at 2pm so I was in plenty of time. Who says being a wedding Dj is easy?
Good communication and being friendly and helpful is really important as the wedding Dj and it’s also important from the bride and groom. My own personal belief is that as the wedding Dj you try even harder when you really like the bride and groom.
Before I even arrived at the venue I had a fully completed wedding checklist from James and all I had to do was to follow it. This form can be found here on my website: https://platinum-discos.co.uk/wedding-checklist/
It is very important to fill the wedding checklist out as fully as you can and if some details are not known at the time you can send a revised checklist later. This makes my job as your wedding Dj much easier!
I also have a wedding playlist form and several pages to help you with song selections. Our top 50 first dances and top 40 father daughter dances are particularly useful. I contacted several other wedding Djs andcwe made up this top 40 selection.
When recently upgrading my website I added these to give you reminders of information that I would need as your wedding Dj and to make life easier for you.
I also added a payment checklist form so that when you send a payment you fill out a short form and that tells me you’ve paid and I can then check and confirm receipt of your deposit. It’s very important that the payment checklist is sent otherwise I might not tie up your payment with your booking.
Here’s what the payment checklist looks like:
Ayrshire has lots of amazing wedding venues and I count myself lucky that I’m able to provide my mobile disco and be the wedding Dj in so many of these beautiful locations. My favourite castle wedding venue in Ayrshire is Blairquhan Castle. I’ve been the wedding Dj there on many occasions in the last 43 years. It is a picture postcard venue with fantastic staff and it has a lovely friendly atmosphere. The guests always enjoy it there and I think that’s down to its beauty, the staff and great food of course. I’ve had some exceptional weddings there and I’ve also provided my mobile disco for a few birthday parties there too.
The variety of venues I go to in Ayrshire, either as a wedding Dj or party Dj is huge, from little village halls like the one in Dalmellington to really nice hotels like The Gailes and The Waterside in Irvine to The Lochside in Cumnock.
I was also the wedding Dj at The Lochside hotel which is another exceptional venue with one of the best ceremony rooms I’ve seen at any venue in Scotland. It has a separate function room which is spacious and has the bar in the same room which I think is a must. The staff are friendly and helpful and access for the mobile disco is easy as you drive up to a door at the back of the hotel that goes straight into the function room. The last time I was there was during the bad snowy spell we had at the beginning of 2018 and luckily I had snow tyres on my van! It is a fairly steep hill to go up to get to that back door.
As a mobile wedding Dj you always look back on gigs that you have done throughout the years. You can walk into a venue that you haven’t been in for years and remember where to set up and where the electricity sockets are etc. It’s amazing what you remember.
I have been a wedding or party Dj at so many venues in Ayrshire and one of my favourite weddings I did was in Stranraer was for Rodney and Fiona’s wedding in the football club’s Function room in the centre of Stranraer. It was a great night with a packed dance floor, lots of requests and an amazing atmosphere.
Another particularly memorable night was at The Clashwhannon pub in Drummore where I’ve been a few times now with my mobile disco. It was a 50th birthday party and it was my first gig there and the start of many mobile discos in that area. As a result of that gig I have done 5 different discos for Jade who’s parents run the caravan park at Auchenmalg. I’ve also provided my mobile disco at The Cock Inn in Auchenmalg for Jade’s dad’s 50th birthhday party.
Ayrshire has so many beautiful venues and I have thoroughly enjoyed all the gigs I’ve done throughout the county.
As a mobile wedding Dj one of the things I enjoy most is discovering new venues and places that I haven’t been to before and meeting interesting people. It makes my life as a wedding Dj and party Dj interesting and varied.
