The Waterside Hotel, West Kilbride, Irvine
I visited The Waterside Hotel in Irvine as the Wedding Dj at Donna and James’s wedding a few weekends ago. I’ve passed this venue on many occasions and always really liked the look of it so I was delighted to finally get a gig there as the wedding Dj.

It has a very beautiful frontage that’s very unusual and has a continental feel about it. With palm trees in the front garden it’s got a unique look.
When I arrived I went to the function room and made myself known to the function manager Ryan so he knew I had arrived and I asked when I could set up and where the easiest door I could use was. He showed me and told me everything I needed to know and I decided to try the food in their restaurant next door as I had arrived over 3 hours early.
My food in the restaurant was very nice and the surroundings and staff were excellent. I do like good food and good service in nice surroundings.
After my late lunch or early dinner I had a look through into the function room to see how things were progressing. I was told I could start bringing my equipment in and put it outside the function room doors. This would speed things up when it came to room turnaround.
Once the guests had finished their meal myself and the band started to set up and were ready fairly quickly.
It was my job to start the wedding reception and then hand over to the band after the buffet.
I did the first dance and introductory duties and everything went to plan. After the buffet the band took over for 30-40 minutes and then it was back to me again.
This venue has a lovely modern, ground floor function room which has a sound limited that’s set at a reasonable level and caused me no problems.
I put 12 wireless mood lights around the function room and put my 4 wash lights up pointing towards the ceiling so the whole ceiling changed colour without blinding the guests. I have to say that it looked rather nice.
I had a very enjoyable night and I thought it was a very well run venue who were fast, efficient and friendly.
The hotel is part of The Simpsinn group of hotels and I was recently at one of their other hotels, The Gailes Hotel in Irvine too. It was equally good and had a very modern feel to it.
On my travels as a wedding Dj, doing mobile discos all over Scotland, I am lucky to visit so many amazing venues. Both The Waterside Hotel and The Gailes Hotel in Irvine are exceptional wedding venues.
