Edinburgh’s city centre venues for weddings, parties and children’s parties are:
The Balmoral Hotel which has two really nice function rooms.
The Hollyrood Hotel which has a nice function room upstairs.
Dynamic Earth has two function rooms, one medium sized one downstairs and one upstairs underneath their domed roof. Car parking is underground at the venue. Catering is very good and staff helpful.
Hibernian Football Club has several function rooms and parking. The Hibernian supporters club just up the road on Sunnyside also has a nice large function room.
The Royal Scots club is another popular venue and I’ve played there many times.
The Royal Overseas Club on Princes St has two function rooms upstairs. One looks out towards Edinburgh Castle and the other is at the back of the building. Great venue for watching the Fireworks display at the festival and the New Years Eve street party.
The New Club is another amazing venue on Princes Street. I’ve done lots of parties in there over the years.
At the far end of Princes Street is The Caledonian Hotel. I’ve done a few weddings and corporate events in there over the years.
The Voodoo rooms opposite the Balmoral Hotel has several function rooms. All of them have the disco equipment built in. Your Dj only needs to bring his laptop and mixer.
The Royal Botanical Gardens also has a function room but it’s one I haven’t been to yet.
The Hilton Carlton Hotel on North Bridge also has a function room as does the Scotsman Hotel opposite. The Scotsman Hotel has serious access problems for Djs and is on my “Do not go” list.
The George Hotel on George Street has a lovely function room.
The Crowne Plaza Royal Terrace is a venue I have done lots of weddings in. Near the top of Leith Walk and close to London Road it’s got a nice city centre location. Medium sized function room with easy access.
The Principal Hotel on George Street has a very nice modern and good sized function room. It’s on the ground floor with easy access.
On the western side of Edinburgh you have The Capital Moat House Hotel which is a very classy hotel with a lovely function room. It’s ideal for weddings and parties.
Not far away is the Munro Centre which is great for children’s parties but has a low ceiling so you need to know the height of a bouncy castle as only some will fit.
Corstorohine has lots of church halls that are great for children’s parties. St Thomas’s Church is one of my favourites.
St Ninians Church Hall is also good as is St Anne’s Church Hall and Gylemuir Community Centre.
Another venue on this side of Edinburgh is Sighthill Pitt’s and Tanners Bar up on Lanark Road West has a nice function room at the back of the building with a good sized car park. Great food there too!
Edinburgh Zoo also has a function room in the grounds called the Mansion House. It’s very good and gives you an ideal chance to go and see the animals too.
Murrayfield stadium has many function rooms from fairly small to huge! Ideal for larger corporate gigs or big weddings. Car parking on site. Difficult access for your entertainment as it’s upstairs and a long walk.
The BMC Club on Gorgie road has two function rooms, one smaller one downstairs and one larger one upstairs. It has limited parking and is ideal if your on a budget.
The War Memorial Hall next to the BMC Club on Gorgie road is also a good children’s party venue.
Heart of Midlothian football club has function rooms too and is just along the road from the BMC Club.
A venue I went to recently was Shandon Snooker Hall. The venue is upstairs but is quite nice. Parking is difficult there as it’s in a controlled parking zone. Food is very good and prices very reasonable.
The Corstorphine Youth Centre used to be a regular venue for me but unfortunately it suffered a very bad fire recently and has been closed ever since.
These are only a few of the hundreds of venues we have performed at. In due course we intend to create as exhaustive a list as possible with all features provided by each venue.
In the meantime you can send any suggestions to add to our list of venues from the contact page here. We will be delighted to hear of your experiences of venues throughout Scotland, and there is always the chance of encountering venues we have not visited.
