Wedding discos and mobile discos
Ashley has been travelling up to Killin, Crianlarich and surrounding areas since the 1980’s as a mobile Dj.

Some of his favourite venues include the Killin Hotel where he used to discos in the boathouse. He says it was amazing fun and they used to have some amazing parties there.
Another regular haunt for Ashley was Fishers Hotel on the main road. It was a smaller venue but was often packed when Ashley provided his mobile disco there.
Right at the top of the town next to the Falls Of Dochart was a pub and restaurant called the Salmon Lie. Back in the days when Ramona Mclure used to run it Ashley was a regular entertainer there too. It was a great venue and no driving home late as Ramona would always give Ashley a room and breakfast in the morning which was very much appreciated.
Before Ramona owned the Salmon Lie she ran a restaurant/bar called The Old Mill on the way to Crianlarich. Some of Ashley’s favourite discos were held in there. It was always busy as Kit the local taxi driver had a mini bus and he would ferry people from Tyndrum, Killin, Dalmally, Bridge of Orchy and Crianlarich to the discos At The Old Mill. It always had a great atmosphere and Ramona was such a great hostess.
Everyone knew Ashley in that area and he explains that when driving up in his bright yellow Mercedes van lots of people would flash their lights and wave that were coming the other way. It felt like coming home he said.
Ashley also did lots of Discos in The Ben Mhor Restaurant back in the 80’s for John Goodale. It was another great venue where he did lots of mobile discos. Recentky they stopped doing discos and built some wooden chalets and do more accommodation now. Every time Ashley passes that venue on his way up to Oban or Fort William it brings back lots of happy memories.
One of the smallest venues Ashley ever played in was the Luib Hotel where he used to stand in the fireplace to do his disco. With a very low ceiling and a small venue it was like sardines he explains, but he had some great nights there too with an amazing atmosphere.
The Suie lodge just over the road also has a nice function suite and Ashley has played there fairly recently. He actually put all his disco gear in a limousine as his van was off the road. After loading in his disco really early he then picked up the birthday girl and 7 of her friends in Tyndrum. It was a surprise for the birthday girl as it had not been booked and Ashley was just doing what he does best, making people happy.
Ashley’s all time favourite venue was actually Tyndrum Village Hall up on the hill behind Brodie’s Store. Ashley explains that his best ever discos happened there. They didn’t start until midnight after The Invervey Hotel closed and all the locals would buy carry outs and come up to the hall. They quite literally took off their coats, found somewhere to sit and put their carry outs and then started to dance!
The discos in Tyndrum village hall are the stuff of legend. The best ever disco was Davie Stuart and David Burton’s joint 21st birthday party with a hat theme. This party went on until 0730! It was an incredible party, but a long night for Ashley.
Ashley also did discos and karaokes in the Inverness Hotel and he still remembers wee Caroline’s favourite song. She used to come up and ask for “her man” which was Bryan Ferry and Let’s stick together.
Ashley remembers loads of people’s requests going back for over 30 years. A lifetime of memories and funny things he has seen.
