PLast Friday night I had the pleasure of being the Dj at Harley and Emma’s engagement party at The British Legion Club in Workington, Cumbria.
It was a bit of a last minute booking as the person who thought they had booked me actually hadn’t confirmed their booking and hadn’t paid the deposit either.
I was in Edinburgh when I got a text message to say was everything fine for tonight. I knew I had a booking that night in Edinburgh but that was the only one I had. I asked a few questions and asked for her email address so I could trace the communications between us.
Once I’d done this I could see that she’d made an enquiry but it booked it or paid the deposit. I gave her a call and said it would be OK and that I’d do the party even though I hadn’t actually been booked. I made a couple of calls and got Keith who lives in Edinburgh to cover my job at The French Embassy. I delivered a giant set of “LOVE” letters to the Place Hotel in Edinburgh and had to set them up upstairs on the terrace.
As soon as I finished setting them up I quickly drove out of Edinburgh and made my way across to Glasgow and down the M74 to Carlisle and then across to Workington.
I arrived just after 5pm for a 6.30pm start and I loaded in my new Yamaha DXS 18 subs with my Yamaha DSR 115 tops and my full mobile disco including 6 stunning lights.
I was sharing my night with a band who had played before at the O2 arena in London.
I gave them the stage and I set up next to the dance floor.
I started the night and then the band took over and did a one hour set. They were amazingly good and the young female singer was awesome! She was a real entertainer and had the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand within minutes of starting.
She was not only an incredible singer but she was so active jumping around the dance floor and stage. She really knew how to put on a show and was very friendly and stayed after her set to dance with Emma and Harley and their guests.
Once I started my second part of the evening everyone got up to dance and I took lots of requests which I always like. I had a wide variety of requests from Diana Ross to Cascada.
It was a very enjoyable night and a short 1.5 hour drive home to Dumfries. I still got in at 3am!
I’m glad I took the gig and Emma and Harley were very greatful that I helped out last minute.
The start of a drama filled weekend!
