My mobile disco gigs in Dumfries, Carluke and Monifieth
My job as a mobile Dj is extremely varied and it’s one of the things that I really like about it.
My first two jobs this week were providing music and compering at a schools triathlon at The John Cumming Stadium in Carluke. It’s an event I’ve now done for 3 or 4 years and thoroughly enjoyed every time. The children do a swim, cycle and then a run round the track. After this they go into the centre of the track and do various activities organised by the council and local sports clubs.
It’s a great day out for the children and one that they thoroughly enjoy. Schools come from all over the area to take part over the two days. It’s a very well run event and my part is to make it even more fun by getting the children to dance, sing and generally interact. They love doing shouts and we had lots of interesting and entertaining ones this year.
Every year I create a dance floor area between two sets of barriers in front of me and also along the lines that go along the football pitches. This year we had the longest ever line along the football pitches from one corner to the other! All the kids did the Macarena, Cha Cha Slide and Watch Me Whip and loved creating a new record!
My other job is to do safety announcements and help the teachers to marshall up all their pupils when it’s time for them to go home.
It’s a long day for me as I have to be set up for 8am and finish around 3-4pm. The time just flies by and it’s great to see all the children having a great day out.
Saturday nights gig was in Crichton Golf Club in Dumfries where I entertained Doreen and Fraser and their guests for their 60th and 70th birthday parties respectively. Crichton Golf Club has a ground floor function room which is always nice when your carrying lots of heavy disco equipment and means I can use my sack barrow.

I played a lot of great tunes and had lots of requests, some of which I hadn’t even heard before. The night took off in due course after the buffet which was delicious! June and her team provide a warm welcome and great service and I always enjoy doing events at Chrichton Golf Club in Dumfries.
Sunday night I was entertaining at David Lloyd health club outside Dundee near Monifieth. It was Daisy’s 13th birthday party and she invited loads of friends. Her mum had ordered my snow machine as Daisy wanted a special effect! The children loved it and stood under it to get “snowed”. It was a great night with lots of singing and dancing and a well behaved crowd.
So for me another well travelled week from Carluke to Dumfries and then Dundee. I stayed over in Perth and tomorrow I’m heading up to Inverness to do another wedding. Unfortunately I won’t make the Dj meeting in Glenrothes as I’ll be in Inverness but business must come first.
