Platinum Discos has a huge selection of light up letters / giant letters and this includes every letter of the alphabet plus every number and duplicates of the most frequently used letters and numbers. We cover the whole of Scotland from Dumfries, Gretna Green, Berwick Upon Tweed in the south, to Wick, Thurso, Inverness and Aberdeen in the North.
We are based in Bathgate where our distribution depot sends out letters all over Scotland in our fleet of delivery vans.
As we have such a large selection of giant letters and numbers we can cater for more or less any requirement. If we are ever overbooked for a giant letter we just order another one and add it to our giant letter hire fleet.
Here’s a photo of giant letters we hired today in Edinburgh at a corporate event:
We do mainly 4ft giant letters and numbers as in my experience the 5ft ones are just too big for some venues. The majority of our giant letters and numbers are battery powered and use LEDs and not incandescent bulbs. The reason for this is that if you knock over a giant letter at a wedding or party with an incandescent bulb, which has a filament, its very likely the bulb will be damaged, or worse still smashed, with glass going everywhere.
We have a limited stock of 5ft letters which are “LOVE” and “MR & MRS”. Here’s a photo of “LOVE” in 5ft size and it has the much brighter 60 watt incandescent lamps.
This photo was taken in Edinburgh, Scotland at The Place Hotel on Queen Street on their roof top garden.
LED lamps they will continue to work even after being knocked over. As they are battery powered and I think they are far safer and can be placed anywhere without having to run cables which takes time and can create a trip hazard so needs to be taped down which is time consuming.
I’m always very conscious of children being close to giant letters and when you hire our giant letters it’s much safer as there is no high voltage for a child’s small fingers to get near.
The other key advantage in hiring my giant letters is that they are not blindingly bright! I can’t stress enough how some giant letters completely destroy the atmosphere at a function by making the whole room like broad daylight. My giant letters illuminate just the letter and not the whole room. Function managers, customers and my Djs all love them as they are not too bright!
Heres a video of my 4ft “MR & MRS” letters in multi coloured mode and my 4ft “LOVE” letters plus my white drape with mood lights and my 7ft heart arch which is ideal for wedding ceremonies and we often move it into the function room later for more photo opportunities.
Whenever I see the bright ones at a wedding or party I’m doing I ask if they can be switched off. Part of being a Dj is creating the right ambiance at an event. I always ask the bar staff or function manager if the lights can be dimmed. It makes such a difference and that same attention to detail came into my decision process when I bought my LED , battery powered giant letters.
The photograph below is of my 4ft giant letters at a wedding at The Hilton Doubletree in Dunblane.
It’s amazing the combinations of giant letters and giant numbers that I’m asked to hire.
Here is one from a housing association that hired my giant letters for their 25th anniversary in Rutherglen Town Hall.
Giant letter or illuminated letter hire can really make an event. They can not only be used for staging photographs but really add to the atmosphere of an event.
When you hire me to be your mobile Dj and I bring the giant letters with me I always ask if you would like to get your photo taken next up them. I sometimes move them to where the birthday or wedding cake is so the scene is set for a great photo. This happened only two weeks ago at Lauren’s 60th birthday in West Barns near Dunbar. I got the two official photographers to take photos of Lauren and her giant “60” letters. Before long everyone wanted to get in on this and got their photos taken with them. It created a nice atmosphere and some good memories to look back on.
Heres Lauren on her own and then with friends and family:
I quite literally travel all over Scotland from Aberdeen where this photo was taken to Inverness and all the way down to Dumfries and Gretna Green.
The photo above was taken at The Perfect Bridal Rooms in Aberdeen for their open evening where customers were treated to a VIP Fashion Show and several local wedding companies exhibited their wares. It was a very enjoyable event and this photo was the staff and models creating a photo memory for their social media.
The above photo was taken at Hollie and Ellie’s 8th birthday party in Dalgety Bay, Fife.
They had their photo taken many times with the giant letters and I organised a big group shot for their parents to take a great photo memory.
I have also done lots of giant letter hires in the last year for universities. This one above was for St Andrews University’s “Freshers Week” and they hired the giant letters for a week!
I’ve also done lots of giant letter hire for Dundee University at three student balls that they’ve arranged. One was for DULSS who had their ball in Aviemore. I provided the mobile disco, mood lighting and giant letter hire then.
Then I did a ball for DUES at The Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee.
Tomorrow night I’m doing another Dundee University giant letter hire at Fairmont St Andrews for “DUPS”. The photo for that will be put up after the event has taken place.
Heres a giant letter hire update: uploaded at 2.05am the photo from Dundee University’s ball at Fairmont St Andrews.
Soon it will be prom season again and these letters will be out on hire a lot! Last year I just missed the prom season but this year I know these 4 letters will be out a lot as I have several giant letter hire bookings already for them. You could add “19” after them or 2019 and if you want them a bit taller I can put them on our special black plinths.
The reason I had plinths made for my giant letter hire wasn’t actually for height it was for stability as one venue I go in Airth called The Parsonage has a very bouncy floor in their marquee and it got me thinking how would I solve this problem. My solution was these plinths which I had made to my specifications. The letters are attached to the plinths with two 10mm bolts and a captive end in the bottom of each letter. The plinths have twice the depth of my giant letters and have a recess in the back to put either stage weights or sandbags in. This solved the problem of bouncy floors in all marquees that I go to.
Here is an example of giant letters on plinths:
In 2019 I decided to add giant letter hire to my incredibly good value £1500 inc. VAT deal. Initially it was 6 letters but I increased it to seven so the bride and groom could have “LOVE” and their initials with either the red heart or an “&” symbol.
Here’s an example:
Just in case you don’t know about my amazing £1500 inc. VAT deal here’s the official poster for it.
This giant letter hire was a big one with 10 letters in total. But don’t think that’s going to be expensive as my prices are very reasonable and if you order a lot of letters at one time I give you a seriously good price! I was told that Ken’s 50th birthday party at Chambers East in Dundee was a great night and you should have seen all the 80’s props that were there! This included several 80’s iconic cars parked outside, a Sinclair C5, a Betamax video recorder and loads of full size cardboard posters of famous 80’s movie legends. The amount of time and money that went into this party was awesome and I was glad to add my giant letter hire into the evenings entertainment.
The 4ft tall “40” was out again last weekend at a 40th birthday party in The Red House Hotel in Coupar Angus. We had a disco and giant letters as part of a package deal. If you hire a disco from me you get giant letters half price. It makes good sense to get them as part of a package deal.
Here’s another video from a wedding fair at Inchyra Grange Hotel. This shows you my new red heart and lots of other things.
