Portable LED Dance Floor hire Scotland
Are you thinking about hiring a portable LED dance floor for your wedding or party in Scotland? Platinum Discos provides the best white LED dance floors for hire anywhere in Scotland.

Here are some important facts that you might not know that will help you hire the right dance floor for your wedding or party.
Not all LED dance floors are the same! When I first looked into buying LED dance floors to hire out, I asked various other companies and friends who hired out LED dance floors and asked which one they bought and why. The answer was more or less unanimous, that Grumpy Joe’s dance floors were the best. They are made in Britain and are consequently better made and last longer and rarely have technical problems.
So I bought two Grumpy Joe’s 20ft by 20ft white LED dance floors.
Since supplying dance floors I’ve heard lots of stories from various people about dance floors that have stopped working during the night and the worst I heard was of a Chinese dance floor catching fire in a hotel in Nairn during the evening reception!
Another fact you might not know is that dance floors can move a fair distance during a night, I’ve personally seen our floor move around 1ft from its original location during a night.
This in itself is not a problem if you place the dance floor in a suitable location with lots of room on all sides. There is no solution to this and I’ve seen people gaffa taping all the edges which looks awful and still doesn’t solve the problem.
It’s quite hard to believe that a 20ft by 20ft dance floor that weighs just under 600Kg can move but believe me they do! Especially if you are particularly active dancers!
The single biggest issue I’ve had personally with the dance floor moving is the edge connector that supplies the power to the dance floor becoming disconnected. It’s simple just to reconnect it but involves removing the gaffa tape from the cable, moving the edge connector and then re taping the cable.
Nowadays for safety you must tape down all cables with gaffa tape. I have thought about this a lot and I came up with a solution that works every time. When we lay a floor we use a section of cable trunking and curl up 1ft of extra cable in it so when the floor moves the cable extends without disconnecting.
A simple solution to a well known problem. It is now standard practice whether I deliver your dance floor or if one of my crew does.
Dance floors need some serious cleaning! After a dance floor hire the dance floor is usually very dirty from marks left by peoples shoes to dirt and spilled drinks.
When we collect a floor we usually clean it on collection where possible. If it’s not cleaned then it’s taken to our storage unit and cleaned there. We also polish our floors with a really good polish and we tried many different ones until we found the one that worked best.
I bought some small Ryobi buffers to clean the floor too which I set to work before the floor is lifted and again when it’s been laid. This means our floor gets cleaned and polished twice for every hire and leaves the floor gleaming! So much that you can see your reflection in it.
Dance floors take quite a lot of maintenance. I regularly clean the edge connectors which are made of copper and check every panel for faulty prongs that hold the dance floor together.
When we deliver a dance floor we always carry several spare panels just in case. Any faulty panels are put in quarantine until sent to the dance floor manufacturer for repair.
We also bring spare dance floor edges and an extra power supply to every dance floor hire. This amounts to over £1,000 worth of spare bits that we take to every job just in case.
A 16ft by 16ft dance floor takes around 45 minutes to an hour to deliver for one crew member.
A 20ft by 20ft dance floor takes the same time but we always have two crew members for this size.
A British made dance floor costs several thousand pounds more than a cheap Chinese copy and I bought mine because I want my customers to have the best and one that stays lit and doesn’t separate during the night.
I think these are the essential facts about LED dance floors and I hope you’ve found it informative.
